If you do not already have one, it is recommended you get a programming cable set for $25.
The Antenna connector on this radio is a Type N and not a PL259.
When you buy the CS800D, you re actually getting the CS800D PLUS radio and is so marked on the front and the labels. The functionality of the firmware is identical to the CS800D. The CS800D PLUS is a CS800D with more flash memory.
The Extended receive is very helpful in monitoring Emergency Managment inter-op and Fire Mutual Aid channels (frequencies) operatig in UHF T Band 470 - 512 MHz. (Customer Review)
This is the first dual band mobile DMR and Analog radio designed specifically for the Amateur market. Among other features that will be discussed later is the ability to legally transmit on both Amateur and Commercial bands with an extended frequency coverage in the UHF band and a removable front panel. First let me show you what some of our customers think of it.

I like the radio especially because of its separating head. I just did not have the needed space otherwiae. Seperation cable is cheap and probably in uour junk box anyway.

Love the form factor especially since it's the only dual band DMR radio that offers remote capability. The software is easy to download and use. Absolutely love the microphone as it looks, and feels, like the Kenwood land mobile commercial microphones.
KEY UNIQUE FEATURES
The CS800D is the only dual band DMR mobile that has a detachable head. The head is attached to the radio using standard CAT 5 or CAT 6 cable. An optional head is available for this radio called the CS-BFD that uses a 7 inch color Touch Screen LCD that gives additonal features not available in the radio.
From the inside, the CS800D is different than the other dual band mobiles. The radio uses a double conversion superhet design with a tuned front end design for maximum sensitivity and minimum interference from nearby radios. The radio has two independent power amplifiers. Switching between UHF and VHF is by means of solid state switches.
Here is the best part. If you do not think this radio is worth what you paid for it, you can return the radio within 30 days and get a complete refund of your purchase price. If the radio breaks during the first year, we fix it for free.
With a deal like this you would think you would be dealing with a company located in Hong Kong or China. We are a United States company and have been in business since 1982.
SPECIAL FEATURES
This monochrome LCD display has larger characters and better visibility in the sunlight than the small color LCD displays.
This radio allows you to quickly change the Tx Contact information on the fly. By pressing the keys from the microphone, you can immediately set up a private call or a group call without having to use the CPS. An example of this is shown below.
Our Digital Monitor Mode allows you to hear whoever is speaking on the channel and see all the special DMR parameters such as Color Code, Slot Number, and Tx Contact on the display.
In the menu Utility mode, the radio allows you to change many of the parameters such as power level without having to use the CPS. An example of the power level feature is shown below.
If you want to see who called you before, put the radio in the Menu Call Log mode.
If you want to see your previous message, put the radio in the Menu Message mode.
If you want to see your previous message, put the radio in the Menu Message mode.

CS800D - interesting radio, but documentation is a bit weak
Overall, as a commercial radio user (lots of experience with Kenwood and Motorola) - the radio is great. Easy to use and program. The CPS is pretty good, with a very helpful "help" pane on the screen. The radio DOES seem to have a number of undocumented features, however - including a PA function that appears in software, but has ZERO mention in the manual for wiring (where does the speaker go, how powerful is it?). A "current zone" indicator would be nice (even if only a number), as would the ability to scroll through zones continuously, instead of hitting a stop at the end, and having to go back. When you switch zones using the front panel soft keys, there is no indicator on what zone number or name you are in, either, so you need to know based on the channel. all of these would be minor firmware upgrades in the near future.

A good radio, CPS could be better
I like the radio especially because of its separating head. I just did not have the needed space otherwise. Separation cable is cheap and probably in your junk box anyhow. The CPS is a bit old and becomes very sluggish when loaded with 100000 contacts... The work around is to save a codeplug without importing the contacts from the database, so you can easily massage it as needed and then once finished, saved, add the contacts. Gee, my little AlincoDJ-MD5's CPS can do better... The N-connector for the antenna is a nuisance, needed a converter to UHF, as most mag-mounted antennas use the latter... This said, I'm happy with the radio, works well for me.

CS800D
Love the form factor especially since it’s the only dual band DMR radio that offers remote capabilities. The software is easy to download and use. Absolutely love the microphone as it looks, and feels, like the Kenwood land mobile commercial microphones. What I don’t like is the lack of sensitivity(?) on VHF and UHF. I get a constant sizzle, in the background of the received signal, that sounds like bacon frying when I’m listening to an analog repeater. I’ve used the same antenna, in a mobile, on two different radios... the CS800D and my Alinco DR638. I’ve used both radios in the same location(s) during testing and the same result. The Alinco, by far, has better receive. I’ve been using an N connector adapter so that may introduce some noise into the radio as well as affect sensitivity on receive. Everyone tells me the transmit audio is good also. I’m waiting for the correct connector to arrive, hopefully the noise will go away after the install. For now, I’m back to using my Alinco and will offer a better review if the new connector reduces the sizzle noise.
